OOC: It’s 1 am where I am right now, so I’m going to bed now. I had a great time today and I promise to get back tomorrow. I’m going to reply to everyone when I’m back. Good night!
Rafe smirked at her and she felt herself grinning back to him. “I don’t know either. But I did quit my job after I learned about what I can do.” She laughed and relished the feeling of finally being free. “Do you think I can make a living out of this?” Anna added jokingly. Anna pondered about her and Rafe’s situation, if both of them got their powers from the storm, then it only means one thing. “Rafe, if the storm brought us these abilities, don’t you think that there are still others out there like us?” She put her hands on the pockets of her coat and glanced back to where they came from. People were walking fast like they were always late for something. Always late, always in a hurry. New York was truly a very busy city.
Not even one soul spared a glance at them and it made Anna look back at Rafe. “What do you think would happen to us if people who have no abilities like this found out about us?” She searched Rafe’s face for any answer before continuing, “I wish they find out about us.”
“There’s more than just us out there who are “special”, I know that much.” Rafe spoke quietly, glancing over his shoulder at the passer-bys who were apparently too busy to pay any attention to them in the alley way.
“It’s only a matter of time before the government finds out about us and starts rounding us up and doing experiments on us, or training us to be super soldiers… I’m making it sound like we’re in a comic book or something.” Rafe gave a laugh which was dry and sarcastic. He truly believed it was only a matter of time before all the super freaks were rounded up and if that was going to be the case, Rafe was going to fight them as much as possible. No way was he going to end up as a guinea pig.
“Super soldiers?” Anna laughed at the term that Rafe coined for the people with abilities if they were trained by the government. Her mind conjured up an image of people clad in silly outfits roaming the city fighting crimes like something straight of a movie. “You’re right. I have a feeling that the government has already heard of this. Maybe they already started gathering people like us.”
Anna was a little perturbed of that thought. While she wants the government to know about them, she doesn’t want them to try and force her to join them. She always wanted to be alone. A lone wolf without a pack. She might let strays join her from time to time but only if she’s the one leading it. Working for something like that would suffocate her, she wanted freedom to decide for herself.Anna looked at the man beside her and asked, “What are you gonna do if they find you, Rafe?” She looked deep into his eyes and saw that he is a man who doesn’t yield to his enemies easily. She bets that Rafe won’t succumb to the government just like she isn’t going to give in.
Anna Walker certainly loved to play. And right now, her subject of interest is none other than little Miss Evangeline Sparrows. A lady who can control light and dark. Now that, without question, sparked her interest. Anna quickly decided right then that she would like to have Eva on her side, and who knows? Eva might prove to come in handy when time comes. Especially that Anna has heard or rumors about the government and another side recruiting people. But what can she do to make Evangeline Sparrows form an alliance with her? Asking her right away won’t work on her like it worked on Ella Ross, she wouldn’t do that. She needed to be gentle with Evangeline or else, she might lose her to others.
They made their way up to Anna’s apartment. Ella was absorbing the new location. Once they were in anna’s unit, Ella picked up that it was way more classy and modern than her dump-in-comparison-apartment. “Ok, now that we are here. Why are we here?” Ella was braced for what ever Anna was going to say or do.
Anna flicked the lights on and urged Ella to sit down. “Do you want anything? Water? Soda? Just tell me what you want and I’ll get it.” Anna removed her shoes and walked behind her kitchen counter. She took an apple for herself and took a bite, “So now we’re here, I guess I should tell you what my proposition is.” Anna put down the apple and wiped her mouth with a napkin. “I want you to join me. As you know, I also have an ability and I figured that you could use my help.” She wanted Ella to join her, and she supposed that the only way of making this girl agree is to charm her into agreeing with what she liked.
“And as for my power, you can only know what it is once you’ve agreed to join me.” Anna grabbed the apple and took another bite from it. She was carefully observing Ella’s reaction to what she was saying while she was chewing her apple. She wiped her mouth again and went to where Ella was. “So, have you decided if you’re going to join me or not?”
Ella could feel the pace picking up in their strides. Ella couldn’t help but mention. ” So, you never really told me your power. Please, relieve me of my suspense.” Ella could see the scenery turning more nature-like with trees appearing do the sides of roads.
Anna can already see the building where her loft was. “Is it your first time here?” Anna asked Ella, “Don’t worry, almost everyone who lives down here are artists.” After walking 5 blocks, Anna was glad to have finally reached her apartment. She fished out her keys from her handbag and opened the door. “Come in. As for my power, you have to wait until we arrive at my unit.” Ella’s impatience was making her feel flattered. “Don’t worry, it’s worth the wait.”
Rafe’s confession about his wife completely surprised her, it was wrong of her to assume things like that. “I’m sorry about that,” Anna whispered, holding her ground. A little ashamed of what she said, she slowly met his eyes. He seemed to understand what she was getting across, he climbed the fire escape like it was just a two-feet ladder. He did it so effortlessly that it made her feel awe for him. He landed on his feet as light as a cat. ”Impressive,” she clapped and afterwards asked him, “Did you get that from the storm too?” Anna was positive that he did. People got weird ever since the storm.
“So, what are you going to do with your power?”
“Yeah, the storm.” Rafe smirked at Anna. Even though she had messed around with his mind and his memory, he was warming to her ever so slowly. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing that she knew a little about his past. Then again the past belonged where it was. No use going over and over it. It didn’t change anything. It didn’t bring Bethany back.
“I don’t know.” He said in answer to her question. He had heard of other supers being rounded up by the government and he knew he had to do something about that. He couldn’t turn his back on his fellow supers. It wasn’t who he was.
“What are you going to do with your’s?”
Not even one soul spared a glance at them and it made Anna look back at Rafe. “What do you think would happen to us if people who have no abilities like this found out about us?” She searched Rafe’s face for any answer before continuing, “I wish they find out about us.”
“My name is Ella, Ella Ross.” Ella replied. Ella didn’t know why she was putting her trust in this stranger but What The Hell, why not? She followed Anna down the street in a direction she’d never gone before. Unknown territory. This made Ella uneasy because she spent quite a lot of free time wandering all over new york and usually she knew all off the streets and backstreets backwards. Not this one.
“Nice to meet you, Ella.” She smiled and picked up her pace, they were almost out of Manhattan now. Anna could feel the unease of Ella and she tried to soothe it out of her, “Don’t be scared kid. We’re going back to my loft in SoHo.” She was beginning to feel good about this, she feels that Ella is beginning to trust her. Trust is a good thing for her, especially that she wanted Ella on her side.
Every sentence Anna said made Ella more and more excited for what was in store for her. Ella couldn’t wait that last ten minutes of work so she ripped off her apron and immediately followed Anna. “Screw work.” Ella exclaamed while pacing to catch up with Anna.
Once they were standing outside, Ella said first thing. ” Firstly, Can we both have like a truce for this chat?” Ella put her hands on her hips and asked ” So, what can you do?”
Anna heard the girl and she slowed down her pace. “Glad to hear that. Let’s go out.” When she finished putting on back her coat, she spared another glance at her companion. “Come on, we’ve got a lot to talk about.” Anna and the blonde girl was now standing outside the bar, she almost laughed when the girl asked her for a truce. “Okay. Truce. Before I tell you what I can do, you need to tell me your name first.” Anna smiled and continued walking down the street. ”Hurry up! We’re going somewhere.”
Rafe let out a cold laugh when Anna surmised that he and his wife were divorced and he wished it was that simple.
“She’s dead.” he said before he could stop himself, fixing his cold eyes on Anna’s warm eyes. She was searching for an answer from him, a reassurance that he had a similar power to her. She had given him a demonstration, time for him to show off too.
On the side of the club was a metal fire escape. He swiftly climbed up it and when he reached the top, he jumped off, throwing in a somersault on his descend and landed on his feet in front of Anna.
“Ta da.” he said sarcastically.
Rafe’s confession about his wife completely surprised her, it was wrong of her to assume things like that. “I’m sorry about that,” Anna whispered, holding her ground. A little ashamed of what she said she slowly met his eyes. He seemed to understand what she was getting across, he climbed the fire escape like it was just a two-feet ladder. He landed on his feet as light as a cat. ”Impressive,” she clapped and afterwards asked him, “Did you get that from the storm too?” Anna was positive that he did. People got weird ever since the storm.
“So, what are you going to do with your power?”
Ella was shocked when the stranger confronted her. Ella was uneasy at first not knowing if this lady had a power as well. What was there to lose by telling her the truth? If she didn’t have a power, she most likely wasn’t going to believe her and if she did. Well then, they could discuss or whatever. “I can manipulate fire with my mind. Simple as that.”
“I get off in 10 minutes. So you can wait if you want I guess.” Ella was intrigued by this ‘proposition’. She couldn’t resist but go along with it. “But trust me, don’t try anything funny because as you can see, I am dangerous.” She said smirking at the lady.
Once But then again
Anna felt good about finding this girl. She exuded power and she doesn’t look like a person who can easily be put down. In a way, the blonde was just like her. “Fire. That’s great,” she smiled and offered her hand, “I’m Anna Walker, you might know me from some of the ads around the city.” Even though Anna had quit modelling, she still took pride of the billboards and ads that she was in around the whole state of New York.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to try anything ‘funny’ to you. Trust me, you’re the one who shouldn’t because I’m far more dangerous than you are.” Anna fixed her hair and took one last glance to the younger girl, “I’m going to grab my coat and head outside, I’ll meet you there.”
